Frequently Asked Questions

  • Water Competence is the demonstrated ability, skill or knowledge required to perform a task or role in any water environment effectively and successfully. It represents a state of capability, combining technical skills with sound judgement and the ability to stay calm.

CalmWater teaches water competence to adults of all levels, through guided activities, challenges, and games.

Each class is structured to introduce and practice one to two water competencies per class, allowing members to train and practice as a group, while progressing at their own pace.

  • There is no program quite like CalmWater.

We’re not traditional swim lessons, and we’re not just a workout. CalmWater is designed to build true water competence:

Our program goes far beyond swim strokes. While swim technique is part of the process, it’s only a small piece of what it means to be water competent. We focus on practical, real-world skills like floating, treading, breath control, submerging, and moving efficiently above and below the surface.

At the core of CalmWater is our 4-level training method: Comfort, Confidence, Competence, and Fluency. Each level includes specific, measurable skills that build on one another. Every skill is scalable, allowing beginners and advanced participants to train side-by-side while progressing at their own pace.

Sessions are structured but engaging, using guided practice, games, and challenges to help you learn and practice your skills in a supportive, community-driven environment.
